Love is Consistency, Just Ask Your Hair đ
I sent out my first batch of samples of our Avocado Coconut Milk Hair Masque and Moist Grow Deep Conditioner, it felt like a lot of time went by without any reviews. A few people used their sample immediately but the majority of recipients reached out a week and some change later. After going over how everything went I asked ,âwhy did you wait a week to use your hair masque or conditionerâ? The most popular response was,âI didnât have any time to use it until now, I do my hair whenever I canâ.
I know for a lot of us when the day is over, most of the time we donât want to do anything else but come home, eat, shower and call it a night or vegg out. Or maybe youâre out and about being social, you get home and the clock says,â itâs time for bedâ. Whatever it is thatâs stopping you from regulating your hair routine, it is getting in the way of the health of your hair.
If you started panicking as soon as you read hair routine you are in no danger. All you have to remember when you start executing your hair routine is anything you do to your hair is an investment. Every task you complete is an investment to healthier hair which yes means longer hair as well.
Starting a hair routine, regimen, hair journey , whatever have you, can be a bit wild at first but thereâs so many resources out there to help reign it in for you. I will include links throughout this blog, make sure you save them for when you can take a look and really push yourself to make a plan. As soon as youâre in the swing of it and you see results youâll forget that there was a time that you didnât love on your hair regularly.
Before you start planning what days you do what, you want to assess your hair. Is your hair extremely dry because of over processing with chemicals or heat? Is your hair dry after every shampoo? Do you have split ends? Has your hair thinned out in certain areas or as a whole?
Make sure you figure out whatâs going on with your hair, itâs okay if you donât have any current issues and just want to be better with your hair. Thatâs valid too. Once you know what youâre in this for we can move to your hair routine.
Iâm going to choose having dry hair after shampooing for my example. Knowing this I would think how many times I shampoo currently. If you need to get a mini calendar from the dollar store to write this out or youâre fine on your phone or laptop, make sure you track when youâve recently shampoo or your shampoos moving forward. This will help you see if you need to supplement a shampoo here and there with a cowash instead. If you donât think itâs too frequent for your hair to be dried out as a response it may be time to look at your shampooâs ingredients.
Nutrafol wrote an article that lists the top harmful ingredients in shampoo that will dry your hair:

Go through your shampoos and conditioners to see if these ingredients are listed. If they are, do yourself a favor and throw them out!
If all of your shampoo is gone no worries! Google,âmoisturizing shampoosâ and go to the shopping tab. Go through the list of recommended shampoos and look at the ingredients list just to make sure none of the ingredients on the no-no list didnât sneak in that product. Look through its reviews just to see if anyone with your hair type is giving raving reviews about it.
One major thing to keep in mind when your new shampoo works, make a note of what other ingredients are in it. This helps you when itâs time to purchase a new shampoo, youâll know what ingredients work for you and if the new shampoo youâre considering doesnât have any listed, proceed with caution!!
Alright, so now youâve worked out your shampoo days somewhat and you know what product you will use or you know which ones youâll have ready. The next step is setting up your deep conditioner day.Â
Some articles say deep condition twice a month, some say once every two months, while others say once a week. Our moisture needs are different of course but I do believe deep conditioning once a week should be the goal. Deep conditioning provides your hair with a healthy dose of moisture. You should think of it as one of the major building blocks for your hairâs health. Regular conditioner is lighter, yes itâll give your hair a little moisture but it doesnât get deep into your hair follicles so itâs only an add on not the base for your hairâs health.
Here is an article that lightly defines the differences between conditioners as well as how you can tell if youâre over or under conditioning your hair:

Keep in mind if you have straight hair which tends to be oily you donât have to be so militant with moisture as curly hair needs. Judge where you are on the hair chart. The closer to type 1 you are, you will be able to stretch out your deep conditions vs. type 4 curly hair. I promise you ⌠if you have type 4 hair⌠please deep condition once a week. Your hair absolutely needs it!
Okay so you have your shampoo and deep condition days planned. Now letâs work in scalp treatments. Yes, your scalp has to be happy too for healthy hair to grow.Â
You need to consider when you will give yourself a scalp massage. Scalp massages stimulate blood flow to your scalp which turns into hair growth. There are many ways to give yourself a scalp massage, I will list an article below that gives you all of your options. I personally enjoy using our Herb Growth Oil for my scalp massages, I do oil scalp massages the night before my wash day. That way I donât cause any buildup on my scalp by adding oil. I apply the Herb Growth Oil to my scalp then massage with a scalp massager I got off of amazon. Other times I just use the scalp massager without oil if I feel I donât need it. Besides being zen afterwards your hair will thank you. Check out this article which breaks down the many ways you can enjoy a scalp massage:

There are many other hair tasks that can be added to this blog post but Iâll close on trims. I know, scissors arenât fun ⌠well they become fun when your hair is healthy and itâs just a quick trim to prevent damage vs. chopping off damaged hair. When your ends start getting snaggly, you see split ends, or when youâre doing a twist out your ends catch on your finger ,â trim themâ. The sooner you get to them the sooner you prevent horrendous damage. This article goes into the importance of trimming a little more:

I want you to look at your calendar that you set up and keep an open mind to more things will be added to it as we continue on your hair journey. For now taking an honest look at your hair and what it needs is what you need to focus on getting better at. When you know what your hair is asking for, the sooner this becomes easier and you can ditch the calendar because itâs become innate.
Please make sure that youâre framing your thoughts to where this is not more work, but that this is your investment to your hair. Youâre scheduling time to hang out with your hair and to love on it. Take a photo day one of your hair regimen and then take one at the end of the month. You may not see the results immediately yourself but as you go along, having a photo trail helps you see everything better.
Youâre going to crush it, donât give up if you donât get the result you want immediately , start up a new plan and adjust as needed. Google and YouTube are your friends!!!
